"Our wonder pet " Leny

February 24, 2007 while in SM North Edsa , Sasha and I passed by Bioresearch to look at the animals being sold. Then she looked up me asking if she can have small pet since all her cousins have one ( dogs ).
Hay! the downside of living in a compound. Your kids will easily be pressured to have what they have. Though they dont usually want what others have .. this pet issue wont fade away.

I , myself love pets ( cats particularly). I grew up having cats at home as many as 2 dozen pet cats. I was 5 years old then when I first saw a stray cat along Antipolo street and took it home while Mom is out working as an architect in Makati.

So when I saw this cute "character like " guinea pig that sasha was showing me, I fell in love with it. To make the story short, we bought it.

Guinea Pigs ... some realizations:
1. Their hair is soft if they are still young
2. They are pretty active. I thought they are passive pets.
3. They have different kind of sounds tos how how they feel. Gurgling sound to show that he is content. Chattering sound means he might bite due to anger or fear. A chirp, similar to a chick sound means he wants company or food.
4. They can be bathe. Be sure to do so since they have flea infestation due to a bad hygiene ... be sure to change their beddings often to avoid re-infestation and foul smelling pet.

Rabbits are cute too. dont buy the small ones.. medium ones have great chances of staying alive.
What I hate about rodents - they have a strong smelling pee.
Better buy shavings too.. that absorbs the smells well.

enjoy!

hi stells! you need to give guinea pigs vitamin c because their bodies cannot produce that. one drop lang per day. use a dropper. we used to have the long haired ones and they lived for about two years. my cousin breeds them and she says you have to give them occasional baths too! :)

Oh yeah.. sabi nga nila they need Vit C. Havent tried it though... wala naman kasi me makita Vit c drops sa sm. But I give him pellets with varied grains and dried veggies for the mean time. Hagen packaging says it contains Vit C.

Bath: this is our fave part. We bath him once to twice a month. Pero nung bago pa sya.. once a week para lang mawala yung lice niya. We used a shampoo with natural ingredients like tee tree oil para naman di siya ma-poison. Yung near the ears na lice talagang pinagtyagaan ko... I used cotton buds only on the affected area to avoid accidental ingestion.

Kaye: maybe you know a brand or type of Vit C I can buy? Do I drop it directly on his mouth?

any vitamin c brand for kids is ok. i think we used ceelin pa nga on Jelly before. yep, direct feeding, i just don't remember the dosage. better to ask your vet.
